Week 49 Review: The Chemist

From Goodreads:
In this gripping page-turner, an ex-agent on the run from her former employers must take one more case to clear her name and save her life.

She used to work for the U.S. government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning.

Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

When her former handler offers her a way out, she realizes it's her only chance to erase the giant target on her back. But it means taking one last job for her ex-employers. To her horror, the information she acquires only makes her situation more dangerous.

Resolving to meet the threat head-on, she prepares for the toughest fight of her life but finds herself falling for a man who can only complicate her likelihood of survival. As she sees her choices being rapidly whittled down, she must apply her unique talents in ways she never dreamed of.

In this tautly plotted novel, Meyer creates a fierce and fascinating new heroine with a very specialized skill set. And she shows once again why she's one of the world's bestselling authors.

My Review:
It was awesome to read this book! It's been a long while since there's been a new Stephanie Meyer book (Life and Death is just taking the characters and switching them, which doesn't fit into "new.") and yeah, it was a different read!

So yeah, I really enjoyed reading about this lady who was a chemistry specialist, though what she does to protect herself, and did for the government was a bit different specialty. And then there was Daniel and Kevin. And the doggies! The doggies were some of my favorite parts in the books!

On one hand, the plot against then was really interesting to read. There were layers, and that was really fantastic. On the other hand, it seemed just a little bit over the top and I want to say obvious, but it wasn't quite. It just read like fiction instead of something that would actually happen, because aren't government workers so bogged down with paperwork to be like this, the mix of kinda creative and action-oriented?

My one complaint is that the love felt a bit insta, and for some reason, Daniel was a bit too stereotypically nice. I mean, she tortured him, Even if it was a mistake and she was trying to protect the country, she tortured him. Yeah. Not the most believable or captivating as a slow burn!

I really hope, in that end, that they picked up Kevin's dogs. Well, at least some of them! They only had Einstein with them in the end, and there were so many more, and they were so cute and awesome, and they should be with these 3 people! There was the sound of barking, so hopefully they have more then one dog with them! Khan! The should pick him up as well as Lola! Yeah.

Side note that the mention of the brother's girlfriend problems, is that inspired by Kevin and Val? Is it really going on, because we know that wouldn't be a problem for the show-it's that they're hiding and living their lives away from the government and can't have the publicity. But that situation happening, I could see it!

This book was awesome, and I can't wait for the next Stephanie Meyer book (hopefully it'll be The Seeker.)
