Week 18 Review: The Elite

From Goodreads:
The hotly-anticipated sequel to the New York Times bestseller The Selection.

Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Illea.

America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.

Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.

My Review:
This was an excellent, wonderful book! Not what I wanted, (more about the rebels and getting out of the palace) but just because those things didn't happen, doesn't mean that this wasn't a good book, it totally was. And while I was sad that they weren't here, besides America running from the rebels, and the bow, yeah, this book just had a lot going on!

If America's heart/romantic relationships were a car, then I'd have whiplash, from how many times she went back and forth between Aspen and Maxon! Between the two, I think she changed her mind at least 4 times, Maxon, Aspen, almost Maxon then not, then Maxon again.

I wanted to shake Maxon for some of his actions in this book. Because it's partially his fault why she goes back and forth, especially the thing with America's friend, Marlee, and how she was whipped for being with the guard. And yeah, that caused a lot of issues between the two of them!

The passages from Illea's diary, those were really creepy. That he got power from the younger generation, who wanted action, and then just bull dosed his way into being a king, like by marrying his daughter off to royalty. That was just awful!

Really enjoyed this book (even the hard parts) but yeah, she's chosen Maxon, and I can't wait for how this is going to play out!
